Nils Lahmann, PD, PhD, MSc, BA, RN

Before he started his academic career, Dr Nils Lahmann was trained as a first level staff nurse and worked in this profession predominantly on intensive care in acute care hospitals in England and Germany. After he finished BA in nursing management in 2000 he started to work as a research fellow at the department of nursing science of the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Since 2001 NL has conducted and analysed the annual national prevalence study of care problems about falls, incontinence, pain, cognitive impairment, mobility, nutrition and chronic wounds especially – pressure ulcers – in more than more than 100.000 hospital patients and nursing home residents and in home care. He finished his PhD in 2006, he received a M.Sc. in Epidemiology in 2009. Since his “Habilitation” (German Post Doc Qualification equivalent to professorship) in 2012 he has been supervising more than 25 PhD Students in different medical and nursing related fields. Since 2016 he is deputy director of the geriatrics research group with a specific focus of the development and testing of innovative smart technical solution to support patients and nursing staff. He has been a member of different expert groups and panel, i.e. he participated on consensus documents of certain pressure ulcers risks and dilemmas in measuring prevalence and incidence of pressure ulcers. He published several papers on in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Dr. Nils Lahmann became a trustee of EPUAP in 2008 and since 2018 he is the chair of the research committee.
